Warning Description: Areal Flood Watch
Warning Date: 4:08 am CDT on May 10, 2008
WarningSum:...Flood Watch In Effect From This Evening Through Sunday
Afternoon...
Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of central Iowa...northeast Iowa...
south central Iowa...southwest Iowa and west central Iowa...
including the following areas...in central Iowa...Boone...
Dallas...Grundy...Hamilton...Hardin...Jasper...Marshall...
Polk...Poweshiek...story...Tama and Webster. In northeast
Iowa...Black Hawk. In south central Iowa...Madison...Mahaska...
Marion and Warren. In southwest Iowa...Adair and Cass. In west
central Iowa...Audubon...Calhoun...Carroll...Crawford...
Greene...Guthrie and SAC.
* From this evening through Sunday afternoon
* light to moderate rains will spread from west to east across
Iowa this afternoon and then intensify tonight. The heaviest
rain is expected to fall through The Heart of the state with one
to two and a half inches possible before diminishing Sunday
morning. Locally higher amounts may occur as well.
* This duration and intensity of precipitation may produce
considerable standing and ponding water within the watch area as
well as the potential for more significant flooding. Some areas
of the watch have recently received heavy rains...in isolated
instances from three to six inches...with soils already quite
moist. Portions of the Des Moines... Iowa...Cedar and south
Skunk River basins are already at elevated flow levels and could
again exceed flood stage depending on where the heaviest rains materialize.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
